Bouvardia

Bouvardia is a plant native to Mexico and Central America. In the late 1500’s, Bouvardia was named in honor of one Charles Bouvard, personal physi- cian to Louis the 13th and superintendent of the Jardin du Roi Botanical Gardens in Paris. While most cultivars exist as plants and shrubs in their native area’s, several varieties have been selected for use in the ornamental cut ower sector. Origi- nally grown as a perennial crop in the oriculture sector, technology and genetics selection now allows for Bouvardia to be grown intensively as a single stem, single harvest crop.
